Experience
AAC Clyde Space, Glasgow - Test Engineer
APRIL 2023 - JULY 2024
Developed methodologies and software for the testing of CubeSat flight hardware.
Full-stack software tool development, including GUI and command line interfaces for the control of instruments, later used by all members of the test and production team.
Developed python framework to allow non-programming members of the team to control instruments and custom hardware through a simple scripting interface.
Designed programmable multi-channel DC load, both hardware and embedded software, from conception to a bench-functional state.
Worked safely and followed strict protocols for the cleanroom environment to ensure ESD and contamination would not damage sensitive components.
Cirrus Logic International, Edinburgh - Validation Engineer
OCTOBER 2020 - SEPTEMBER 2022
Developed effective validation methodologies using the available tools - Python, LabVIEW and standard lab testing equipment - to test critical analogue and digital functionality of next-generation mixed-signal silicon devices.
Became de facto UK validation lead of a project after sudden resource constraints, despite difficult time restraints and customer requirements, the deadlines were met. Rapidly developed strong leadership skills and familiarity with being a project lead of an international project.
Worked effectively with design and validation teams to identify and resolve errors within IC designs, both in-person and remote international collaboration.
Developed instrument drivers in Python to work with the new testing framework and allow complete test automation.
Involved in the interview process for graduate engineers, including CV screening and technical interviewing.
Received strongly positive feedback about my work from designers, members of other teams and peers, and achieved multiple awards for this.
Wrote and presented documentation to inform team members of difficult testing methodologies with regards to high-performance PMIC devices.
Education
University Of Glasgow - MEng Electronics and Electrical Engineering
2015 - 2020, Achieved 2:1
Courses: Analogue and Digital System Design, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Control Theory, Power Engineering, Simulation of Engineering Systems, Semiconductor Device Theory and Fabrication.
Projects
- Individual Project 5 - “Development and Implementation of Mechanisms to Improve the Reliability of On-Orbit,
Continuous Axis 3D Printers”
- Worked over 6 months to develop and test bespoke 3D printers, designing and testing a system to improve reliability. Organised tasks and resources over this period, overcoming time challenges. Produced a functional system and documented the project in a masters thesis. Parts of research completed published in the Reinventing Space 2019 conference paper.
- Team Project EE4 - “Automotive Racetrack Wireless Timing and Communication System”
- Developed a complete system to record, process and display timing information at a remote location. Worked to meet both technical and legislative standards in a long-term group project, resulting in a robust and accurate system. Presented a prototype to peers and academics, receiving high praise and achieving an A3 grade (91%).
- Integrated System Design Project 4- “Commercial Resource Efficiency”
- Produced a feasibility study for improving the energy and resource efficiency of a local company. Actively contributed in team management and researched different technologies across various fields of engineering, implemented knowledge to determine feasibility and cost.
- Team Design Project 3 - “Timed Robot Maze and Target Practice”
- Designed and constructed a microcontroller-based robot, capable of autonomous navigation and position registration for launching projectiles. Created concept design, aided with software development and delegated and supervised less capable members of the team. Generated a PERT chart leading to a project plan, which orchestrated tasks and actions. Produced a working prototype in the correct time frame and presented this to a team of professional engineers.
